The new German S2k guideline lipedema was published in January 2024 and is a completely new version.
An English short version is now available. The paradigm shift in lipedema has been implemented: “lipedema is neither an edema nor a disease manifestation with venous or lymphatic dysfunction” (p.4).
A milestone in this guideline is that mental stress and obesity are focused on in separate chapters for the first time: “Psychological disorders may affect symptoms and quality of life of lipedema patients and should be considered in diagnosis and therapy of lipedema.” (p.7) & “The therapy of overweight and obesity shall be included in the overall concept of lipedema treatment….” (p.8).
