Lipoedema and Pain: Understanding the Role of Psychological Factors

This article explores the evolving understanding of lipoedema, highlighting a shift from viewing it primarily as an oedema-related condition to recognising it as a complex syndrome in which pain, inflammation, and psychological factors all play important roles. Drawing on research from the Földiklinik, the authors demonstrate how emotional well-being, stress, anxiety, depression, and past trauma can influence pain perception and quality of life in women with lipoedema. The article presents a modern, multidisciplinary treatment approach that combines compression therapy, exercise, weight management, self-management, and psychosocial support to improve patient outcomes and overall well-being.
